In this year-long competition, the Commons whose residents enter teams in intramural sports and participate in the Group Fitness program will accumulate points to earn bragging rights, receive championship shirts — and have their Commons name permanently engraved on the trophy’s base.

male t-shirt template PSDThis award is named in honor of the late George McGaughey, who was the first person to serve as the Coordinator of Intramural Sports at Lafayette and who did so for 32 years.

The competition for the Cup is based on a point system which rewards participation, success, and good sportsmanship in intramural sports along with .  Aside from the Cup and a unique tee for members of the champion Common, mid-semester and mid-year prizes are in place for the Commons currently in the lead at those points in the year.

The team having accumulated the highest point total by the conclusion of the academic year shall be awarded a trophy.

Points are calculated based on the following factors:

Enter a team sport (credit for 3) ………. +15 pts
Enter a co-team sport (credit for 3) ……. +30 pts
Enter an individual/doubles sport (credit for 6) ……..+5 pts
Supply a qualified official for event ……… +15 pts
Each win during league play ……… +5 pts
Each tie during league play ……… +3 pts
Each loss during league play ……… +1 pt
Advanced to playoffs …….. +5 pts
Event champion ……..+20 pts
Event runner-up ……… +15 pts
Third place finish ……….+12 pts
Fourth place finish ……… +10 pts
Sportsmanship (>3.2 average) ……. +20 pts
Sportsmanship (>2.8 average) ……. +10 pts
Forfeit from a league …….. -15 pts
Player ejection from a game ……… -10 pts

NOTE: No points will be awarded to a team that is removed from a league due to a forfeit. No points are awarded for playoff games, only for advancing to the playoffs and for the finals placement (first and second place).
